I looked over this briefly the other day and one thing that stood out to me was TN 2007 harvest percentage prior to primary firearms. 74% compared to 39% in 2012. That seems like a huge number. Wonder what caused the big difference that year? EHD contribute any?

I would like to bump this up. I am curious for the above explanation and in addition to that some comments on how the samples were gathered state to state. BSK can you shed some knowledge on this or can anyone else?

Something tells me that data point is in error. But perhaps BGG could shed some light on it.

I am trying my best to hold my tongue but I hope everyone understands there is no science or useful information for that matter in this type of propaganda. It is so disheartening to see what QDMA has become when they publish "reports" with obvious mistakes, highlight those mistakes, and try to make comparisons between things that aren't even close to being comparable. I'll explain more later when I have time but I expected so much more out of them. It appears science, health, and volunteer participation are no longer part of their core message.

Thanks for the responses. Some outliers like the one I pointed out just didn't make sense to me vs what I have read in the past, etc. I won't point out the other questionable things in the report, but that is amazing they would publish something like this that isn't statistically legit. At the very least provide an explanation of the different collection methods from state to state.

They point out some of the different collection methods although they fail to explain what DMAP is (generally highly managed deer hunting property). My biggest frustration, however, is comparing TNs yearling harvest to that of a state like AR or MS. The biggest difference between us and those states is that the TN hunter will NOT get a ticket for killing a yearling buck. I personally prefer having the choice of what I shoot instead of being told what I must shoot.

Well said.

QDMA is not the organization they once were.

The only differences I have with that statement CAW is that it should have been posted in all caps, followed by five exclamation marks! ;)

I take it Tennessee didn't fair to well in the report?

I think TN's CORRECT data paints a very good picture of the state's deer herd and hunters.

However, it's hard to compare numbers with those states that have very different laws and data collection techniques. How do you compare numbers that are a sample of all deer killed against numbers that are only collected from intensively managed private property? How do you compare harvested age structure numbers with states where it is illegal to kill young bucks?
