I'm likely going for a long shot on the mule deer draw for muzzle loader. I really wanted to bow hunt the rut but I cannot swing it this year.

I've been to several. Further west you go less people and less deer but you get to see alot because of the open country. East Kansas is full of draws and plenty of trees to climb. The WIHA map updates in august I think. Find an area with cover, way off the road, and near food such as cut corn and you'll find plenty of deer.

My in laws have 150 acres in eastern Kansas that said I'd could hunt it if I drew a tag, but the application process kind of overwhelms me and knowING what all license I need etc.

It's easy. Just apply for the non resident tag (archery, mzl or rifle), select the unit they are in and pay. If you draw you will then need to purchase a hunting license in addition to your deer tag.

Today is the deadline though.

What are the odds on a Kansas tag? Any quality zones with a good chance of getting the first try?

I have 4 Iowa points but I'm waiting on a buddy to catch up before I apply for a tag.

Depending on units, relatively good. In the last 4 years I have been drawn for muley once and whitetail 3x.

I'm not for sure. It's my first time, but I will have access to several farms so it's all private for me even a place to stay just gotta get a tag

Whitetail units in KS that have historically been 100% draw odds are 6, 9, 10, 13,14,15 and 18. All other units have had 90% or better except 1-3,5,7,11,12. Basically any whitetail tag in KS can be drawn with 1-2 points with most being 0-1 needed.
Mule deer tags in the better areas of have less odds, like 12-20%. Unit 1, which has some of the best trophy potential is about 14% odds of being drawn, but you must first draw the whitetail tag (66%odds) then draw the mule deer tag (which is a purely random draw with no preference given).

KS drew today. I did not get my mule deer tag but I did get a unit 3 any sex whitetail tag. Should be a fun and challenging early season hunt.

Did you draw?
