It's not a black duck. It's a mottled duck.
My son thought it was a black duck when he shot it.

I'm preoccupied with deer & deer-related until after the 1st.
Otherwise, always enjoy whatever am hunting.

Think I told you my grandfather grew up big-time duck hunting on what would later become the Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge. I visit some of his haunts on the refuge annually.

Back in his day, Walnut Log was a booming little place, and much of the best of the areas' duck hunting was on what would later become the federal refuge.

Im actually going to agree with tiger here. That bird looks to light colored to be a true black and it looks like the wing has a white trailing edge. Black ducks don't have that.

Pure blooded blacks do not have white on the wing but mallard/black duck hybrid can and do have varying amounts of white.
