I haven't seen a tick since the summer time, but I hung a lockon 8 days ago and am still scratching myself now. When I hung the stand, I noticed a small but unmistakable vine. No leaves or branches, but when I cut and removed it, I must have got it on my leg at some point. Took me a few days to notice that I kept scratching the same spot, then I saw the red bumps. Yall remember that the vine always has urushiol, the oil that makes the rash, even in the winter time. I got a little on my face from putting my climber on the wrong tree 3 years ago. I know better but sometimes the tree just looks to good not to hunt out of. :D

I have a buddy who works for local power company taught me a Littke trick. If you come into contact with it don't scratch or rub. As soon as possible take cold water and rinse area completely. Seems to have really worked for me the last few months.

Yeah, I've gotten poison ivy from hanging stands when the leaves are off the vine, as well. Good reminder and good tip to rinse as well.

Problem is I didn't know i got it on me till a few days later. But it could be worse, I'd rather have a little PI than chiggers or seed ticks, any day

Man I got a nasty spider bite last weekend on the Catoosa Hunt when the temps got up to 70 degree. The weather has been crazy this year. Best weather all year and I have been laid up with a swollen foot due to that bite.

One thing I wished God never created. I've had to go to the doctor 3 times this season to get a shot and two of those times my wife has had to drive me because my eyes were swollen shut and I could barley see. I could be down wind of it and still get it.

Yeah, I am severely allergic to it as well. Was having some issues with it during October and November which prompted me to do some research. Found that the hairy vines are the culprit and the trees i have been climbing are covered in it. The stuff is still capable of causing reactions during these dormant stages when the vines are broken. That was my issue. Started using gloves and paying close attention when climbing not to touch the stuff with bare skin. Keep in mind too, that even with gloves and protection, the urishiol oil is able to stay potent on the cloth for several months so makes sure to clean them thoroughly. Had a buddy wipe with the stuff a few months ago and was rashed up from front to back. He has some very interesting stories from that time.

Catman, same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I'm highly allergic. Got it on my left wrist and behind my right ear. Just FYI for anybody who doesn't know...the rash itself is not contagious.

Yeah, the "rash" does not spread - only the skin that comes in contact with the oil itself.

If you get it in areas other than face, I wash in hot water, scratch it real good, and apply a qtip of bleach (do NOT use excessive amount). Burns like the dickens but dries it up and scabs over. Gone in no time. Doctors woukd not recommend this method :). Otherwise for me, I have to go get the steroid shot cause none of the overcounter stuff works.

And I bring 2 pair of gloves when I'm working and hunting. I use one pair to remove vines I see that way I can put away and not accidentally wipe my face.

I can pick the stuff up and handle it with no problems but when I'm hanging a stand sometimes I scrape my arms hanging around the tree. When that happens and I rub it in I get the rash.

I have to have my hands taped so I could not scratch in my sleep.

I never knew there was a shot for PI. Once I knew about the shot, I have not had PI.

I hate it and Poison Oak too. I got angry at the stuff in my back yard and went after it, digging it up. When I was done it looked like the gopher in Caddy Shack had been visiting.

Used to get it all the time as a child. Over the years I have built up a tolerance to it.
I encounter it all the time now hanging stands and whatnot. It just doesn't affect me anymore.

Pretty sure I could wipe my butt with poison ivy now and not be bothered.

Same here...used to be deathly allergic but haven't gotten breakout in years, maybe coincidentally since I had a shingles outbreak at about 30

I'm still fighting it right now and it sucks. I don't know if it's sumac, oak, or ivy, but apparently I napped in a tree stand with my neck firmly nestled against a vine.

Worst case of poison ivy that I ever got was in December in Kansas. I hung a hang on stand in an oak that a had a substantial poison ivy vine snaking up the tree. The leaves were long gone, so i figured it was ok. Idiot move on my part. The oil from contacting the vine apparently got all over my arms and hands....and then all over everything else I touched. That was one piss I'll always regret taking. I now implement the "no hands" method when taking a leak in the woods.

If you are allergic to poison ivy, then this video is very much worth watching. A bottle of liquid soap and wash cloths are in my truck at all times...
