Famed ‘Ramland Wyoming’ Bighorn Herd Can’t Shake Pneumonia Breakout

There's no better place to view bighorn sheep in the state than "Ramland Wyoming," near Dubois. However, the animals are suffering from a lingering pneumonia outbreak that has taken the herd of 2,500 down to about 750.

2023 was not a good year to be an animal in WY. Hopefully, they can catch a break in 2024.

Isn't it crazy to think that part of the Rockies was once full of wild sheep? The Shoshone Indians in that area were known as the "sheep eaters" .

Best bighorn sheep picture that I've been fortunate to capture was in the Badlands. My buddy hade a real camera and we saw the sheep from a distance and there was a pull off up ahead so he let me out and I sat and waited. As they walked by I got a nice ram with several ewes...caught him doing a lip curl with head cocked sideways...but that pic is not digital...its on film packed away.
Anyway, sorry to ramble...great memory.
