well just got my plot disced today .. now the question,what to plant? 3 total acre in 2 plots. old hay fields that had been idle for years. on the top of a mountain but level. lots of sun.

is there anything to plant now that will last thru the winter? does it need lime and fertilizer ? thanks for yalls help!

its gonna need whatever the soil test says. This should be the first step.

However, if you have already disced it your in a little of a bind. Buckwheat is good but planting time for it is in may. You can plant clover now but w/ out proper fertilization and in a spot with "lots of sun" it could suffer over the summer.

If it was me Id get a soil test done asap, add lime and let natural browse take it this summer. Then Id redisc about start of september and plant in an rye grain, clover, winter wheat mix.
