Usually I load 10 thousands off the lands and do all my load work around powder charge nodes. Today, I loaded my press up and hauled it to the 100 yard range with a plan to see what seating depth would do to accuracy. I figured I would start near the lands and keep backing off 5 thousands. I had no idea I would end up where I did. I was testing 175 smk's and 168 smk's out of my .308. These are my two best 5 shot groups from each bullet. I heard that Smk's love to jump but I had no idea I would end up at 35 thousands.

Heck, b/c of throat depth my 06 loads are .150" off the lands, now that's a jump! Purdy accurate too with under .750" 3 shot groups, and under .900" 5 shot groups. :)

Have you had that rifle trued up?

Very good shooting--

I really like handloading-great results

Can you believe it's a factory Savage model 10 but with a 28 inch criterion 1" bull barrel with a 1 in 10 twist. Nothing special done to it.

I would say you have found the sweet spot.

Still, it can only do as good as the shooter so a big tip of the hat to ya, great shooting.

Interesting for sure... I shoot 168smk's exclusively in my 308's and they're all sitting 0.010 off. Haven't had the time to play with depths yet.... looks like I need to!
