We have a field of alfalfa that's about 4 acres. This is the third year since we planted it. Pigweeds are showing up and are pretty thick. I'm looking for some advice on how to get rid of them or at least something we can spray on them to kill them. Round up will not kill them. BTW the alfalfa has been incredible for a food source, antler growth and a great place to hunt in the afternoon. Not to mention the turkeys stay out there on a daily basis. Any advice would be much appreciated!

This is what I've used for general broadleaf weed control in alfalfa and clover.

The label says it will control pigweeds but I've not tried it on them myself. In spite of having an infestation of pigweed in one food plot, my alfalfa field has never had them. The weeds that I have had though have been killed nicely with the above product.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to order it and give it a shot. Do you buy stuff for grass control from this place also? I'd like to order some of that too. Thanks again!

One warning. If you plant the Whitetail Institute's "Alfa Rack", which contains 10% chicory, 24D-B will kill all the chicory. Chicory is basically a "broadleaf weed" as far as the herbicide is concerned.

For this reason, I can never keep chicory in my field longer than about half a growing season.

Awesome! Thanks again for all the info! We just have alfalfa and leave about a third acre in the middle to plant for the Fall. This year we are going to plant sweet spot. Never tried it before but have heard good things about the high sugar rye grass.
