Well it's the last 3 hours of legal shooting hours for my quota hunt here in Williamsport. It been dead slow for deer today, nobody has killed anything today. This walnut tree le me climb pretty high, at least 40 or more like 50 feet up in this small holler. Yes, my harness has been strapped to te tree since I stepped onto the climber. This holler is a good spot as far as I can tell, now if only a deer will get up on its feet before dark. Hardly any other hunters out here now.

It's comfy up here, but the breeze does make it a bit swayish...

Yikes! Way too high for me--I'm deathly afraid of heights too. Good luck!

I'm out on a climbing stand but I have a summit lock-on I've hung at 40ft before and it was the best stand I had on an old Kentucky lease i used to be on.. It was a pain in the butt to hang though...

I climbed many trees in that stand but I was never stupid enough to go 50 feet. I did that camo paint job one year out of boredom. The foot pad sure made a difference in keeping my feet warm. That stand has been on half the stands at Cheatham. I'm guessing I got that and another just like it but one size smaller in about 1983 or 84.

I would like to see the bucks over 125, I killed out of that stand. They don't make it any more but it was state of art in its' day. I sure hope you are wearing a harness and wonder why you want to make your shots so difficult by climbing way higher than needed.

Bowriter- Shots difficult? These two dropped in their tracks.

Ps- thanks for the history on the stand, I was curious about it.

dang! 50 ft.??? I am a 25-30 ft. climbing stand guy and the 30 ft. sometimes seems little excessive. To each his own, stay safe and use a harness. Nice kills on the does.

I've got no problem going as high as necessary for the spot - but most places above 35ft and you get back into the canopy branches and I find visibility usually gets worse.

My tow line is 20ft - I usually climb till it pulls tight and adjust for visibility from there so usually 20-23ft.

What kinds of climber is that?Thought Id seen em all.

That is a Quick and Quiet, made in WI for just a few years. They owner made a pile of money and bought a place in MT and just retired.

Bowriter - the doe's heart was jellied and the fawns lungs were jellied. Just aimed for the shoulder and squeezed em off, longer shot was around 50-60 yd range.

Carlos Viagra- I have needed a hair cut for weeks if not months but I've been putting it off mainly due to either being in the woods, at work or other responsibilities... I could just grow it out at this point but im sick of it all in my face lol

50'
I've had a limb break at 18'
No broken bones
Accidents happen, but you shouldn't worry
at your height, as long as your wills made out
You probebly miss more stuff at that height than
You see, bolts break, straps break, something
happens, even with a safety harness your
DOA or crippled for life

Basically I had never climbed higher than 25 feet, so I picked a tall tree and went as high as I could just because I wanted to see farther. Turns out BW is right, twigs and branches did get in the way but obviously it didn't hurt the two shots that put those deer on the ground... Now 50 ft is not going to be the norm for me, I just wanted to see how high I could get and have a good view of the woods.

Climb as high as you want buddy. You put 2 deer down in there tracks and thats all that matters.

You had to be tired getting up and down tho :D

I get nervous after 15'. Cool to see that you could do it. Congrats on your deer, you are on a roll! I hope to get my 2nd of the year/ever this week around Percy Priest. What would you have done if you fell out and were hanging from the tree at 50'?

not that tiring really, just took longer. Hauling the two deer out was the tiring part.

if I fell I wouldn't have hung much below the stand and could have easily climbed back onto it. Definitely a bit more risky being up so high but I felt pretty safe strapped in and I ain't too scared of heights either. Next time ill probably top out at 30 ft or less just so I can shoot under the canopy better.

I guess I would just be concerned that the stand would fall too and I would be hanging way up there. I guess if I could I would wrap around the tree and try to shimmy down a little at a time.
