They should be catching some now but feb is better all the way thru easter usally . Several people fish right at the dam in front of the flood gates all the way around the lock walls and the silos . A bunch of fish get caught there but I prefer fishing down river . Usually from the dam to clifton .

I fish a 1oz some but mostly 1-1/4 oz hair jig tipped with a tuffy minnow and a stinger hook . Some people use shiners and several use rubber grubs of all kinds and colors . You can find the jigs at most of the stores around the dam any color will work . I have about 60 differnt paint and hair color combos . You can't go wrong with a red head green hair or orange and green or blue , purple or black .

You can find some good spots by riding down the river and looking for the boats . Just pull up river from them and get in the drift . I usually fish between 25 - 45 ft of water the later the date shallower they get .They usually stack up in the river bends usually in the deeper pockets . They also get below creek mouths . Drop your jig to the bottom keep your line tight and jig it up to about 16 inches off the bottom . I use a med-hvy spinning rod with 14 lb braid if you feel any resistance set the hook repeat till you catch one . If you have any more questions let me know I'll help if I can good luck !

Your welcome I'll try and get some pics of my jigs when I get a chance . To give you a better idea what they look like .

Lots of folks tip the sauger jigs with minnows or sometimes a soft plastic of some sort. I always bring something extra along to try like that in case the bite is slow, but I'm the first to admit that I'm not much of a sauger fisherman (I mostly catch them by accident in the warmer months). I sure enjoy eating them, though!

I don't care much for the 2-hour drive to the boat ramp, or the frigid temperatures, or the finicky bite, or the boring vertical jigging that ensues. But if the fish are biting, it's worth it! :)
