Battle announced last year that he had cancer. That's a fairly serious illness that, even though the prognosis is good, can change from one day to the next.
Hart is retiring and is staying on until June 2017.
Surely you can see the difference in the two situations.
Battle's contact was also coming to an end. It's not like he just decided to step down out of nowhere. They knew it was coming.
