Just watched a young buck chasing a young doe with an orange collar on.

Is this some kind of tracking collar, or did some dipshit put a collar on a deer so it can choke to death when it gets bigger? Is it some new way to hunt, or what?

Sorry no pics.

Its someones pet. I know the Amish put bright colored collars on the ones they bottle raise so they know not to shoot them. You could have probably walked right up to it.

I thought maybe it was. I feel sorry for whoever thinks having a wild deer as a pet is a good idea . Cause that meat looked mighty tasty, and i will not hesitate!

I've got an orange collared deer at one of my spots too. He's a six point. The collar is growing into his neck. Sad. He will not get a pass if I see him, for his sake.

One of my neighbors here in Indiana (Who deer hunts) has raised a buck from a fawn (With DNR permission.) Turned into a nice little 7 pointer in his first year. The guy wrapped the bucks antlers in blaze orange tape. He didn't want to use a collar for that very reason, and he was worried that painting the antlers would affect the deer's ability to smell predators. It's only about a mile and a half from me, so if I happen to see the little guy, he gets a pass. Most of the folks here know about the orange antlered deer. And you wouldn't want to make Grizzly Adams angry!

That is some cool pics. That deer has got one heck of a first rack, should be a stud. Keep us posted how he grows, I love to watch deer progress.

Once the rut kicks in, he may run off to parts unknown. If he gets too far from there, someone else may get him. Then my bud would not be happy. I hope he makes it for quite a while. There are plenty of deer in our area...

There was one here last year with an orange collar on. He came up to me a few times. He probably choked to death when his neck swelled up. Not a good idea to tame a buck. Good way to get someone hurt. Ive heard a few stories about this and have seen a guy get the hooves taken to him when a tame buck was in velvet.

Tame bucks will hurt someone in a heartbeat this time of year. I dealt with one that sent 3 people to the hospital one day.

I know it's illegal and I know the damage a "tame" buck could do to someone around rut time, but if someone had raised that buck and he was a pet or even a semi pet and came by me wearing an orange collar there's just no way I could shoot him. I think you'd either have to be very, very hard up for food or really low down to shoot him for spite. Not even if he scored 150. Period!

Agreed, horrible to have a "pet" deer. Sad for the deer IMO.

That all being said, I really like how the guy wrapped the antlers in Orange Ducktape. Very neat!

Told a story earlier in the year about a yearling buck licking my hand in the woods with his sister standing 10 yds away. If I know that its a pet and not afraid of humans then no way I would shoot it. I'm a deer hunter not a deer shooter.

People hand feeding the deer are not doing the deer any favors but giving them a higher chance of getting shot because they are not afraid.

No I would not shoot him. I would do the opposite and make sure I don't shoot him. I wouldn't care if he scored 200". Not a single pore in my body would want to shoot it.

100% agree. I hunt deer, not pets.

No way i could do it but to each his own.

I just had to put a deer down on the way home from hunting because it had been hit by a car. Made me feel bad doing that but it had to be done.

Saw a spike with a orange collar on it's neck in cocke county yesterday. He got a pass, I saw one with a green collar few years back in Rhea county. Is there a web site or group of folks that have information as to what they think this is going to do.
