Headed out to the river after work to try the rockfish. Saw several big ones follow up but not hit. Came across a very small creek that runs into the river. Maybe 5 foot wide but for some reason the fish like hanging out there. One cast into the mouth of the creek which is maybe 2 foot deep was all it took. A beast came out of nowhere after about 2 cranks on the reel and hit the redfin like he was mad at it. Drag started screaming and for several minutes he did as he pleased. I was finally able to turn him before he spooled me and made ground. Eventually he tired and I got him in the boat. We were both worn out. I snapped a pic and cradled him back in the water until he was ready to go. Didn't measure him but he weighed in at 34.5 pounds. Not my biggest rockfish ever but I think maybe the hardest fighting one I have ever had. Love catching these things in shallow water on the surface. Oh yeah, also caught a small 10 pounder later.
