I have Leuopold VX-I mounted on my omega. However, due to the rear sight I can't get the eye relief I need on 9x. Is there a better scope (maybe shorter) or should I remove the rear sight?

I have a z5 with a nikon omaga 3-9x40 on it. A lot of people tell you to get a bushnell. The nikon has gave me no problem in the 2 years It's been on there. Yes you can take the rear sites off yourself be carefull of the spring if you do. the front sites if like the z5 you will need a tool or a gun smith to take off. Or buy higher rings to clear the rear sites. I would stick with nikon or leopold. Hope this helps

I always take off the rear sight (no real need to remove the front sight IMO). If you mount your scope low (best for a number of different reasons) you'll see the rear sight in the scope even if you can get the proper eye relief.

Best of you get filler screws so the holes don't get rusted threads.

Why do you even NEED the 9x on a muzzleloader? Really? I could superglue my power at 3.5 or 4x and be fine for all my shots. How many 250+ yard shots do you really make on a ML?

It is all I have at the moment. Maybe one day I can.

I have a 3.5 x 10 on my Omega. I have a fixed 4x on my Knight. I like that 3.5 x 10 a lot better. It's much, much easier to sight in at 100 yds with 10x vs 4x. I hunt with the scope turned on 6x, but I'll turn it up to scope out a deer in the brush, etc. so I know what I'm looking at. I have half a dozen 3.5 x 10 Leupold Vari XIII's. Love em, like having the same scope on all my hunting rigs, and find the higher power useful.

The only time you'll have trouble with a 9x is when you have it cranked all the way up and one walks under your tree. But that's trouble with a 3x, too!
