This one has been setting in the corner for several years. I have the time now so it's back on the work bench. The barrel, lock, and triggers are inlet. Next step is to install a butt plate.

walnut stock, L&R lock, Davis single set triggers, Green Mountain .40 caliber barrel. all other hardware is steel. It's gonna hopefully end up as a half stock Tennessee mountain style rifle.

It's 15/16 by 42. Most of the shooting I do is offhand and no doubt will cut it back to at least 38"...maybe a little more.
I started on installing the butt plate. I've got it close but still have some fitting to do. After that I'll pin the barrel to the stock.

Update on the build....lock bolts, tang bolt and trigger screw is finished....butt plate attached....trigger guard's final inlet and attach is almost done....hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to install the barrel underlugs and pin the barrel to the stock.

I've installed the under lugs and now have the barrel pinned to the stock. Last night I put the under rib on the barrel. Boy was that a struggle.....haven't work on building guns in years. I ended up breaking a drill bit and tap but was able to overcome. Next step is to drill the ram rod hole.

The barrel assembly is finished except for sights, touchhole, and finish. The ramrod hole has been drilled and the entry thimble installed. I've begun shaping the stock and making a lot of saw dust. It should start looking like a real gun soon.

Udate....Should have been finished with this by now. All I can say is that I didn't know retirement would be this busy. Anyway, just a little more elbow grease and she'll be ready for some range time.

Suh-weet! That has to be an awesome feeling to have that piece of craftsmanship in your hands, knowing it was your hands that built it!

Thanks all. It does give you a feeling of accomplishment to build one then take out on a successful hunt or winning a shooting match with it. Both of which I've done. I'm hoping to have it finished in time to shoot her at the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association matches in Friendship, Indiana in a couple of weeks. Since the last photo was posted, the touch hole liner and sights have been installed. Yesterday, I poured a pewter nose cap and will try to do final shaping today. With a little luck the stock finishing will be started as well. The next photo will be of the finished gun. Another project is already on the burner as I've been gathering up parts for a brass mounted flintlock longrifle.
