So some of you may remember the trail cam pics I posted of the big bodied deer a few wks ago. I hoped he stuck around, but he didn't. He has been missing for around 3 wks now. Not a single pic of him.
well guess you made an appearance... Tank showed up this morning running a couple smaller bucks away In the field. One shot through both shoulders dropped him where he stood.
243.5 live weight, 6.5 yrs old (done by TWRA, and mass around the bases where I can barely put my hands around. 10 points in its 2 points broken off. (Notice the pic of him alongside a couple young does someone else killed this morning.)
A fitting end for a true hoss...
So I got a call this morning from my taxidermist who I dropped Tank off at Sat afternoon. I asked him to age the deer when I dropped him off or save me the jaw. He said ok, and he would also let TWRA look at him Tuesday when hey came to get the stuff for the CWD testing.
Anyway, he said he aged him at 3.5 and then let TWRA confirm. Apparently they said 3.5 all day.
I even asked was there something wrong with the deer to make him that big. He said he just thinks he was fat.
I just don't see how a 3.5 yr old deer can have a body and even a head this big. The deers neck measured at 22.5 inches for the mounting form at the base of the jaw/below ears. Even the taxi said that is huge for around here.
So the saga that is Tank may have ended a little earlier than it should, but I still don't think he would have gotten a pass even after knowing what I know now. (Even though I have my doubts on age)
