I have a new/used Encore, and tried shooting it for the first time tonight. I had gotten used to an aftermarket aluminum rod I was using with my other ml, and I had drilled a hole through the rod large enough to put some nylon line in case it ever started sticking.

Well, the rod with the Encore is short enough to almost disappear when there isn't a load in it. I'd been running a patch every two shots and it was coming out just fine. Then I pushed this one just a little too far...

Any advice before I go get a breech plug wrench?

Fetch the wrench Spike.................Your safest and best bet.

No chance of damage to either the gun or the rod.

PS: One question, Does the end of the rod have a threaded hole in it? If so, try screwing a brush or "T" handle into it and pull it out.

Pour just a bit of water or other liquid into the barrel beside the rod. It will wet the patch and it will slide right out. Remember to always push in the patch in short strokes, pulling it back out a short distance and repeat until you reach the bottom of the barrel. This will prevent the patch from getting stuck.

What he said
and also have a wire worm tip on hand to retrieve a lost patch just in case.

The jag I have on the end of my rod for my encore is about 3 1/2" long so there's still enough rod sticking out. I also have a TC "T" handle I use sometimes.

I got away from using my ramrod to clean my gun yrs ago, I use a cleaning rod with all the attachment like I would any of the my other guns.

I feel you get a better cleaning job that way. Besides, the cleaning rod is longer also.

Picked up a T handle today; they didn't have a wrench, but I'll try the socket before I buy one later. Couldn't get the rod out with just the T, but with some warm soapy water it came right out. I gave it a thorough swabbin out today, you betcha!

Thanks fellers!

I use a large diameter shotgun cleaning rod with a brass jag on the end as my dual purpose cleaning rod and range rod. I will admit to getting it stuck tonight in a traditional caplock. They make a ram rod puller, a device that fits over the ramrod or cleaning rod and has two handles that tighten down in a camming action. Not having one and actually having pulled a wooden ram rod in half with one once I was stuck to my own devices. What I came up with is fastening a length of 1/4" rope to the cleaning rod with a three wrap prusik hitch, a type of knot used in rope rescue for climbing ropes. Once fastened to the cleaning rod the other half was slipped over the ball on my truck hitch and using a combination of weight and strength (more body weight than strength) I was able to pull the rod free. Actually I dislodged the rod from the patch which created a new problem, removal of the stuck cleaning patch. Easily solved with two slightly straightened #6 fish hooks, some 24ga floral wire, a slotted cleaning jag, and a GI cleaning rod. It worked so well I'm leaving the jag and hooks wired together in case I lose a patch again.

You can buy a worm jig just for such and occasion........

If you can find one. Short of ordering one, traditional ML supplies are almost nonexistent around here due to the popularity on inlines.
