This ol boy couldn't stand the sound of some pups getting wooped up on. His protection instinct got the best of him I guess. Sat on this stand for 40 minutes. My longest wait ever.

cool! I went yesterday without luck. I started with cottontail from Js MINI and finished with ki-yi's from manuel Haydels sly pup. What do you normally start with and how long do you let it play?

Tink69, I usually start off with some form of rabbit distress. If a hungry coyote is close he will be there quick. After 10 minutes I switch to a bird in distress for cats for 10 minutes. My last 10 minutes will be whatever I feel like at the time. Usually another rabbit sound. At the 30 minute mark I then sit still and quiet for about 5 minutes. This gives any coyote or bobcat that has come in but hasn't shown himself an opportunity to come investigate what all the fuss was about. Old dogs are slick at doing this. And I have had cats come to the decoy after I have sit there for a bit. Once they are fixed on the decoy they sometimes cant resist coming in just to see. After that 5 minutes of quiet, I then hit the pup yips for about 1 minute and get ready. If you have a dog held up anywhere close that did not want to come in, this will get em better than anything will. That is if they are in the mood. Most of the time they are if they have come this far. That is what ended this dogs day.

Thats right. Sounds like good cat area. The thicker the better for them. I always try to set with the wind in face or from my right or left depending on the cover I am calling. If the cover I am calling is on my left i try to hunt it with a left to right wind to get the coyote to expose himself to trying to get down wind of the sound and just the opposite on cover to my right. I really like areas where I have a large bank to my back or a barrier that will not allow the dog to come in behind me and force him in front of my location.
