Well not only is November 9th my little sisters birthday but historically I have had pretty good success killing a buck on that day as well. This year however proved to be the best one yet. I got to the stand at 1:30 yesterday afternoon it was an area I had not been into since scouting in August. Well the buck sign had exploded down this particular ridge. I had multiple large rubs and scrapes coming out of a thick bedding area. As I settled in I had a 4pt push a doe right by me I knew the little ones were up on there feet for the last week but the big stuff still hadn't been moving. At 3:00pm that changed drastically. I caught movement down lower in the hollar I steadied my gaze and immediately saw huge g2's moving through the timber away from me. I grunted but the wind prevented the buck from hearing me. A little louder with the next grunt stopped him and made him turn to look straight at me. At this point I could tell he was mature and had a solid frame of antlers. With him being directly upwind of me I decided to try it....the infamous snort wheeze! I let it rip as natural as I could (the short wheeze lol) and old tall tines bristled up and pinned the ears back. With that little coercion he was headed to me on a Bline from 70 yards out. I scrambled to grab my bow and pick a suitable window to shoot through. I had to hurry as he was closing distance fast. He passed broadside at 18yards and I bleated to stop him. "Thwack" arrow looked good and he tore out like a banshee. I got down to check the blood and arrow and my stomach sank. Broken arrow, almost no blood, 6" of penetration [emoji33]. I looked for about 10 minutes for blood and then decided to back out. I replayed the shot over and over in my head to try and figure out what could have gone wrong but this only made me more anxious and frustrated at the situation. Sleep did not come easy. Well a new day dawned and I headed back up into the timber to take up the trail again and it didn't take long. He was 40 yards from where I stopped looking. I went through both shoulder blades and punched both lungs. In all there were maybe 50 specs of blood that led me to this mid TN buck I was blessed to take.

Sweet! Fantastic buck and a job well done on the recovery.
