Not really sure what this ammo is. Got it in a bulk group. Tag on container says 40-82. Bullet brass says Bell 45-2.4.
Bullet comparison for the hotdog is comparing it to a 38 Special

40-82 is the cartridge, obsolete in many ways. Used most commonly in old Winchester lever guns. Brass is .45 basic, and the 2.4" is the length of the virgin brass: hence the 45-2.4 head stamp on the brass. Sizing creates a taper in the cartridge brass down to .40 cal. Apparently the .45 basic brass is often too thick, so it's not as simple as just running it through a sizing die. Cast bullet diameter is usually .406-.408, depending on your rifles bore diameter
