Ok, I know this could be a touchy subject but I'm interested in some night vision optics and wondered if anybody has any experience/advice on a couple of products.
Disclaimer: This will be used in states where night hunting is permitted (i.e. FL and NC) for hog/predator control. Effective use would be in the sub-150 yd. range, probably more like 50 yd range...
I'm looking at the Sightmark Photon XT 4.6x with additional Pulsar L915 IR illuminator. Midway has a package right now for $500. I know it's a gen 1 unit but it gets good reviews. I'm looking to stay in the sub-$500 range. Soooo, whacha think???

I am not familiar with that scope, but I have a little experience with gen 1 scopes . You are not going to get anywhere close to 150 yds with a gen 1 scope. You are probably only going to get out to 75yds, maybe. Without spending allot more money, you may be better off getting something like a laser genetics if you think you may shoot much out past 50 yds.

I used a night vision thing one time in 1970. I was looking for whatever tripped a flare in the concertina. I thought it was the coolest thing. I guess it was gen -850 but it beat shooting flares....

I don't know anything about night vision, but a cousin had a pretty cool setup I got to play with. All digital night vision and a lot of other cool features like put a memory card in and record off of it. You could also use an app on a phone and I could see what he was looking at

I have the digital scope you mentioned. You can pm me for details. I also have a lot of experience with other higher priced thermal and night vision units.
