Harvested this nice 8 Sunday afternoon sitting on the ground on the edge of a bean field. I wasn't expecting much to happen seeing as it had gotten fairly warm that afternoon but was going to enjoy the evening and hope to see some deer off in the distance. At about 4:00 I saw something move up the ridge to my back left. I looked through binoculars and could see the tips of tines from several bucks on the other side of the crest of the hill. After a few minutes I lost sight and turned my attention back to the field in front of me. Probably 10 minutes later I hear something from my back left again and see this guy coming right at me down the hill. As soon as he went behind a tree I drew my bow back and popped him at about 20 yds. He is a beautiful buck but probably would've passed him if I was in one of my better spots due to having some more mature animals on the list as well as trying to let 3.5s grow another year. But let me tell you there was no way I was going to pass that shot. That was by far my most exhilarating hunt I've had going from not expecting much to having this guy to 20 yds while sitting on the ground with my bow. It definitely has made me think about removing all of my stands and attempting to bow hunt from ground from here on out. I feel like the challenge would be self rewarding along with not putting such an intense emphasis on antler size.
