Besides being careful with the load what else do I need to know about smokeless? I have never been around one before. The gun I'm getting is a previously owned savage with a known load that the gun likes.

don't clean it....I like to index my sabots to the rifling, two lands per sabot petal...Some people think it doesnt matter, but it just makes sense to me....Good luck with it...

Clean the flash CHANNEL with a old vent liner installed to protect the threads in the plug.
BTW when you get tired of dealing with vent liners you can get a plug with a tungsten carbide bushing instead of vent. The bushing lasts a very very long time. Luke at smokelessmz.com sells them for around $80.

The Savage plug has a 5/32 flash channel, the OEM CVA plug has a 3mm channel and the CVA Blackhorn209 plug has a 1/8th channel. When using Blackhorn209 its also a very good idea to make sure the flash channel is kept clean. Mostly for reliability reasons. Triple7 is far easier to ignite than either smokeless or Blackhorn209.
