Hello All
I'm new to the area, kinda, for hunting anyway. I drew a quota permit for Zone 1 Hunt for OakRidge Wildlife Management area. I've downloaded the map and I'm familiar somewhat with the area, but not the woods. https://oakridgereservationhunts.ornl.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/2019finaldeermap.pdf Where is a good place to start scouting for my hunt?

They do a radiation test on all the deer killed at the check station. If it has a certain level of radiation using the Geiger counter. Then they keep it. Not sure how many get kept. That's all the information

Scout day is always the Saturday the week before your hunt.
Been there numerous times since they opened it in the 1980's, going back this year on the Dec. MZ hunt.

I'm in no way giving anyone pointers on where to scout ;), all I'll say is go EARLY on your scout day, use the whole day to scout if you need to, and have numerous spots picked.

Most of the areas have gates blocking the roads, they open the gates at 5 or 5:30am--can't remember--but BE THERE WHEN THEY OPEN THE GATES.
