New straightwall from winchester

That thing looks like a perfect caliber for kids/women or anyone wanting a low recoil deer rifle for 200yds and under. With 20% less recoil than a 243Win and more energy than a 30-30Win. and being compliant to hunt with in 47 states it could be a winner for them.

Would be nice in a handy lever rifle like a 94, 336, or Henry....
Agree or an AR

It's neat and it's just a theory, but the only reason it was developed was Winchester saw the writing on the wall with more and more states allowing straight walled cartridges in their "primitive weapon seasons". Bet anything more are developed.

I mentioned ARs above.. seen mention of 1 company maybe doing that. However the guy wasn't sure ,has anybody else heard besides the XPR of anyother rifles.

these rounds are being designed to meet the laws of states like Ohio's straight wall cartridge laws. looks like a neat little round, and hey who doesnt like low recoil

Magazines and feeding would be some pretty big hurdles for an AR.

ETA: I see CMMG has made an AR for the round, but I don't anticipate any of the major players investing the time to accommodate this caliber in an AR. We'll see.

I'm not sure how the round compares to a .223. I haven't seen the two side by side. In general, magazines are difficult to design, but it's possible that the modification was easy. The view was obviously worth the climb to CMMG.

K, kinda thought that was what you meant but thought ya might know something I didnt..
I haven't seen em side by side either however if as many have said it is,the rimless 357 Maximum it should be doable in an AR. I would think..

I'm not so sure I'd want to bother with it unless I were a handloader and intended to buy up a lifetime supply of brass when 1st introduced. Odds are against such a niche cartridge making is commercially. Even if you did buy up such a supply of brass, will that 150 grain bullet be available for reloaders? It does seem to be a ballistic twin to the 35 Remington so that sheds a bit of light on their claim that it is some kind of deer slaying magic. I love the 35 Remington, and in fact hunted with mine exclusively this year, but I'm very aware that it's a modest range woods gun at best.

I find it amusing that a cartridge that was probably inspired due to so many states wanting a special straight wall cartridge season, justified mainly because typical rifles chambered for such cartridges are single shots or otherwise less capable than more modern guns, is already being considered for chambering in AR's. Unless each state specifically limits action types, the special season they envision allowing only older, more traditional guns will be nothing of the sort. Just goes to show that people are going to "Game the system" of anything that comes along.

The .450 Bushmaster is just as much of a niche caliber, and it's been fine. This new one will be a good alternative for those who are a little more shy to recoil. I predict it will be around for a while.

The 450BM has even managed to find itself in several bolt guns now. Some are very affordable too. Ive also seen a couple cheap single shots like the CVA Scout.

357AR is nothing new. Starline even sells unformed 223 basic brass for making them. They would probably work for the 350. 357Max was never embraced for bolt actions. Ruger had a great platform for it but never retooled the 77/357 to build one. CZ has the 527 which is nearly perfect for something like the 350 but it aint cheap. The 77/357 and 77/44 were not exactly cheap either.

Bring out a cheaper sub SA sized platform for it and you got something. Much better fit for the round and small frame shooters.
