Hi TNDeer members!
My name is Chris Hunter (aka Happy Hunter
or for those who knew me from my teenage years, Huntdawg as they called me in high school, cause my dad and I had a large pack of beagle hound rabbit dogs). I have recently joined TNDeer and just wanted to say hello to everyone and post a little about my background:
I am a current resident of Gibson Co. and was born and raised in Dyer Co. TN. I like to hunt deer (both whitetail and muleys), turkey, and waterfowl. Would be great to hunt Coues and Blacktail someday (doesn't hurt to wish I suppose). I've been following TNDeer for many years, but have just recently made my first post.
I've worn many TN state gov't hats over my almost 23 year career. I've been a State Park Park Naturalist, Park Ranger, A TWRA regional wildlife diversity/endangered species biologist, an adjunct professor teaching Natural Resources Management, a statewide biologist over the wild turkey, animal damage control, furbearer, and black bear programs, a regional wetlands habitat biologist, and currently a regional uplands habitat biologist in West TN.
I probably do not know most of you, but just a little tidbit; I did score a huge deer for Deer Assassin once (when I was a statewide biologist in Nashville), think it scored in the 180's non-typical, but can't remember exactly). I am a positive person and will try to only post positive thoughts. I will try never ever to disparage my agency or any person in any way, will not discuss hotbed political issues, but I will do my best to answer any questions anyone may have about my personal knowledge and experience pertaining to habitat (although it might take me a few days to get back to you and will try to answer several questions at once). I will be totally out of pocket from October 7th-15th (going on a mule deer/pronghorn combo hunt along the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming).
I've hunted various TN game over most of my life, but have also hunted in New Mexico and Lord willing if the creek don't rise (or dry up), have plans to hunt big game in Wyoming (2025), South Dakota (2026), and Arizona (2027) over the next couple of years. I am finally getting to the ripe older age class where those preference points are paying off.
God bless and look forward to future conversations around the TNDeer camp fire!
Sincerely,
H.H.
