I want to get you guys opinion on something. A few years ago, I shot probably te biggest buck of my life one afternoon. Got down, went to look where he went in the woods and heard him crash. Found really good blood. Didn't have a light so we backed out and got a couple. Came back about 2 hrs later and started tracking. Went probably 50 yards in the woods and jumped him up. He got up and just stood there wobbling like he was fixen to crash, but never did. Anyway, he took off and we heard him crash again. We though he was done this time. We'll we backed out and came back in the morning and to make a long story short, about a mile later, no deer. Blood went from big spots were he would lay down and bleed to pin drops. Found bone in some of it. Never found him and the next wknd we got kicked off the property. Where do y'all think I hot this deer? He standing about 100 yards away perfectly broadside. Shot him with a Browning BAR 30.06.

Sounds like you got a piece of the shoulder. Sporadic blood but no deer. A friend lost a 150ish buck a couple years back just like that.

Yep makes me want to sell my rifles! ;) Jokes aside no way to tell just guesses! It happens if you hunt enough!

No doubt shoulder , you mentioned finding bone . You most likely shot him in the shoulder and the bone deflected the bullet and it missed the vitals believe me I've lost a couple shot in the shoulder , bleed alot for awhile then after it clots up it quits bleeding . There is a good chance he survived .

Yea he survived. The guy that owns the property got pics of him the next yr and ended up killing him. I think he grossed 175 when he was killed. We still to this day don't have a clue why we got kicked. The owner was already a little weird and we came back the next afternoon and the got had a lock. Called and he said his father had leased it out. Came to find out he didn't. We don't know what happened. I killed my first deer and first buck there. Great piece of land. Guy had small kids coming along and I know him and his son have killed monsters every year. I hated loosing him. When we seen him up close that night, he was a monster!!

A close inspection of the body may have given you the answer. Hindsight of course now.
As to why you lost permission to hunt there is no way of knowing for sure. Folks don't always tell you why they do things. It's his property and he doesn't owe anyone an explanation. May have been more of his family's wishes than his. I am curious if both of you had permission to hunt? Sometimes bringing friends there to hunt can make landowners nervous. Also, saying no now doesn't mean no in the future. Things change and people loose interest in hunting and you may have another opportunity. Especially if he likes you.
