Re: Both Oak Ridge Archery hunts

I know they've made some changes to the map. From what I've seen there is a lil more land, but the number of hunts shot way up. My suggestion is to go to an area early, scout it, go back midday to the area midday and just see how many people are wandering about. Know that many people do not scout, they go by areas they have hunted in the past so it's a crap shoot on whether you'll have 1 person close by or 10.

There are some excellent spots in the archery zone. Think outside the box and wear out some boot leather on the scout days. Watch where people park and enter the woods then look at maps and think about how that will affect deer movement. Last year I had the whole ridge to myself, saw several deer, and killed a 12 point. There wasn't another hunter within a 1/2 mile of me that didn't ride in with me.

Good advice, like many crowded WMA's that only allow a couple days hunting at a time, HUNT THE HUNTERS!

Ive never been but my plan is to find some thick cover to hunt near and sit from daylight till dark..
That sounds like a good plan. :) :)

Please note that even though the "Statewide" rabbit season may be open, and rabbits would be legal to take with archery equipment, this is NOT the case on the Oak Ridge WMA. Rabbits are highly protected and never legal game on the Oak Ridge WMA (same for squirrels).

Don't be tempted. Let the rabbits walk.
