Punched tag #1 a little after daylight this morning. He was cruising and looking for does. Couldn't tell much about him when I shot as he was moving quick. Warped the ground so I reloaded and kept an eye on him. About 5 mins later he started trying to get up so I squeezed a shot through a small hole and got down. Got to him at about 5 yards and was still breathing. Hated to shoot him again but he tried to get up again. First shot must have hit a limb as it was perfect in rib cage but exploded on impact. Second shot hit him high and didn't enter cavity due to him on ground. Third shot did it. 
He would have died from first shot but not without a fight. Pretty big bodied deer but short tines.
