I agree.. sometimes you gotta go for broke, I got lucky that time

Eh, you didn't get lucky. It was a clever move. Only from being around deer a lot can you understand their behavior habits enough to even think of doing that, let alone try it. Back before coyotes were a thing, I once got a shot at a buck by charging full throttle at him. He stopped to watch me like he'd never actually been chased before, and by the time he took off running again he was within range of my 12ga slug. Now that coyotes are around I doubt I could pull that off again. Deer are used to being chased again.
