Figured I might as well post it here now that the video is up. I only moved on this bird a couple times but mostly just waited him out and called just a few times. He finally lost his hens right before noon and came sneaking into the fence row where I was hiding. He was looking for me. Got the heart pumping.

I've not watched this one but did you figure out why you missed last time?

Yes, those hooks!

same reason I always miss. Resin shot (longbeard XR) didn't help either, very tight pattern up close. Went back to Double X

Really nice bird Cat. Great video too. Self filming is just hard but you get it right. I know your homemade wingbone is the cat's meow (pun intended) but do you use other calls ever?

Dad gum Catman congrats man!!! That to me would be like killing a B&C buck, you couldn't wipe the smile off my face! Them old turkey know how to stay quiet don't they! Congratulations on a bird of a lifetime

Hell of a turkey. Ditch the longbeard shells. Those things only have one purpose and that impressing your buddy's in the back yard on paper at 55yds.

they're good shells if you can shoot straight, which I can't, so I'm using double X again. With double X my gun is currently no good at 40 yards, but I'll just have to get em closer.

thanks. Yes sometimes I carry a mouth call and/or a pot call. If I'm hunting with someone who has a box call, I like to run it, but I don't like to carry one.

Congratulations. Great video. Man those spurs could leave a mark in a hand or leg.

You just don't see spurs like that in TN much anymore, much less on public land. I'm sure you appreciate what an old warrior you got the privelidge of taking. Congrats!

Great bird Cat. Can't wait to watch the video, but not enough time this morning. Headed out!

Not surprised at all that he didn't gobble. He didn't live his whole life on and around public land and grow a set of spurs like that by being a loudmouth. The best turkey I ever killed never gobbled either and I hunted him several days in a row. And he was a private land turkey no where near as good as yours. Makes me wonder about those who prefer and choose not to shoot a bird that doesn't gobble - how many superstars wisely come in quiet and walk away unscathed.

Bird of a lifetime Cat! Congratulations! You definitely put in the work and deserve the rewards. I'm going to watch the video in a few. Those spurs are just amazing.

Congrats! Watched the video last night. I made the switch this year to the Longbeards. I figure most of my shots will be in the 20-40 yard range. The double X really opened at 35 yards and I wasn't really confident. I didn't want to buy the TSS rounds and pay that price.

You ever thought about hand loading? Tungsten gets a lot of fanfare for its long range capabilities, but that's not all it's good for. You could load a lighter payload (1 3/4 oz or so) and shoot an improved modified choke and have a very forgiving pattern that is way more than adequate at 40 yards. You seem like a crafty, DIY kind of guy, so I think you would enjoy the process. There are some up front costs, but it's not that bad when you do the math. And it's extermely rewarding to kill one with a shell you built yourself.

Just something to think about for next year. If you ever decide to try it let me know. I'd be happy to help you get started.

Just watched it. Awesome video bud. What time was it when you pulled the trigger?
