My 1998 Stratos 295 Pro-Elite is in need of a facelift. My tournament season is over now (for the most part) so now the fun begins. I will post pictures as segments of the project are completed.

Carpeting is ragged and needs replacing. Youtube videos make it look easy.

The carpet on the worst looking storage compartment is terrible. It was suppose to pull loose in one single piece that could be used as pattern for the new carpeting. It was so brittle it came off in small pieces.

Keep is updated. I'm in the same boat ( ;) ) myself -- I've got a roll of carpet and a couple of pails of adhesive in the garage just waiting for the weather to cool down an bit before getting to work. Like you said, the youtube vids make it look easy, but I'm sure I'll figure out a couple of ways to screw it up.

STEP One: Remove compartment lid.
STEP Two: Remove old carpeting in one piece. (Use as pattern to cut replacement carpet.)

Two hours in to compartment lid #1. Carpet was suppose to come off in one piece so it could be used as a pattern to cut new carpet. CAME OFF IN CHUNKS and little pieces. Two hours of Acetone, wire brush, razor scraper and sander, i finally have most of it off. Old glue is hard to get off even using Acetone.

Day two is going a lot better. The second compartment lid's carpet came off in one piece. Did have some small tears but will work nicely as a pattern to cut new carpet. The second lid has a lot more residual glue left behind. Will take a little more effort to remove from lid. Found that a side grinder does and excellent job on the lid edges.

I had what could be referred to as a "moment of clarity" this afternoon. The high speed sander and grinder were melting and smearing the old glue residue. I made a quick trip to the hardware store and bought to two simple, inexpensive tools. The glue residue came off easily with these tools. I accomplished in 10 minutes what would have taken and hour with the sanders and grinder. 10 minutes and $6.79 later I had removed all the glue residue on the second compartment lid.

Another trick for the lids is to measure inside and outside of lid edge then cut a 1x that width.
Then turn lid upside down and place 1x against lid and cut with razor knife. I done my 400te
Over the winter, amazing what new carpet does for a boat. I used weldwood contact cement
and aplied with paint brush.

I will be honest. The most difficult part of the carpet replacement is getting the old adhesive off the surface of the metal pieces. I would work on it a few minutes. Get ticked off and quit for awhile. Took me about 20 hours of on and off labor to get the back half of my boat carpet job done. Surprisingly, it looks good and I am pleased with the outcome.
