I have a CVA Blued Optima that I just noticed has some rust accumulated on the breach end of the barrel and on the hammer side. I used some solvent/cleaner, rubbed and oiled. Not much came off. is it ok to scrub this rust off with a metal brush? will that hurt the blue? In the manual, when it refers to using a bore brush on the barrel, it doesn't say the type of brush. I'm assuming it means the copper or brass brushes I see for cleaning? Which leads me back to my original question of using this same type brush anyhwere on the gun?

I am guessing it is on the outside of the barrel? I used to work in a small gun shop, when we got a trade with a little surface rust we had good luck with fine steel wool and oil.

So the steel wool and smolepolls bronze definitely wont show scratch marks or effect the bluing? As you can tell I've made a wrong move or two before!

Never use WD-40 on any firearm.

WD stands for Water Displacement.
WD 40 will not clean, it will lube. It will not protect like most gun oils. Your guns will be fine, but I suggest getting some real gun lube that will protect them.

You need something with CLP(Cleaning Lubricant Protection). I've used Break Free CLP for years and stick by it.
