Motor Problems

Ok so my brother had the boat out the other day and the water pump went out and over heated. It melted some wires down in the engine. Does anyone know about this? I was wandering if the wires may actually be there for that purpose to shut the motor down to prevent any further damage. It is a 18 ft stratus with a 150 hp johnson motor

i guess its possible but i would'nt bank on it. Do a compression test to start with. all cylinders should be within 10% of each other

if it got hot enough to melt the wiring, that motor is toast!!!
