How much did it cost you?
I didn't add up all the costs. Let's see...
The non-resident 24 hour fishing license was cheap; only $7.
I didn't have room in the luggage (airplane) for my waders, so I bought some neoprene water shoes for wet-wading. Then when I got to Michigan I realized Ileft the shoes home, so I bought another pair while there.
When I got to the small town (Baldwin) near the river, I asked the fly shop owner about local flies and tips, then bought some flies, a water-proof bag for my camera (left mine home), some socks, etc. This totalled about $50.
When I got to the river, I realized that I'd left my chest pack with all my essentials (fortunately I did have my rod and reel with me!) at my brother's house, so I had to go back to the shop and buy leaders, tippet material, more flies, splitshot, pliers, etc. This cost another $50.
When you add in the cost of the rental car and living expenses for the extra day in Michigan (the airline ticket was paid for by my employer, since I was up there for business) that fish probably costs a couple grand per pound.
Later I caught about 6 more little trout, and had a decent sized one on, but he got off shortly after being hooked. These fish were much cheaper, since the costs had been absorbed by that first 'bow. Compared to other ways I could have spent that money, and most of the stuff I bought I still have, it was well worth it.
When I bought my last bass boat, after abouth the third or fourth trip I told my wife we could now afford to eat the fish in the freezer, since they now cost only about $700 each.
