I am hunting an 8-year old pine forest. I've never created a mock scrape and am wondering how and where should I start one in this type of cover. Any suggestions would be gladly welcomed.

I'm sure there are some old logging roads so I would find a trail crossing the logging rd and make one there. Make sure it has an overhanging branch.

I put one down yesterday where i found a real one the year before 2 hours later i watched a buck come in on string then worked it aggressively

Some go as far as taking the licking branch from an active scrape and placing it over the mock. You could also use some dirt from the active scrape...he wont miss it :)

Just find an appropriate location that already has a limb hanging down at the right height (4-5 feet), kick the needles/leaves out from under the end of the limb, and pee in the scrape.

As of three days ago, I've got an active scrape under a pine on my place.

I have found them under numerous species of trees. Even today found probably 10 and almost everyone was different.

It really just depends on what species of tree/shrub exist in the area that tends to have a lot of low-hanging branches. In my area, the VAST majority of scrapes are under beech and maple trees, simply because in a "big woods" environment, beech and maple are the only species growing under the canopy with low-hanging branches.

But I've seen scrapes under everything from low-hanging muscadine vines to blackberry briers.
