Over the years we've always just used trace mineral blocks from the local farm store vs. something like a Trophy Rock that is now available. 40-50lbs/block for $5-8 vs. the 12lb Trophy Rock for $13-18; economically it's a no-brainer.

Question: Doesn't mineral block for sheep/goats/cattle deliver essentially the same trace supplements and TR?

That's all I've ever used and had great luck. I've used, trace mineral block, sulphur block, fine stock salt and trace mineral salt, rock salt and table salt.. never used the TR cause its so over priced I think.

I like TR because it is all natural, and you can hunt near it if you wanted to without "baiting". I get better results with TR than with anything out there, and I have tried just about all of them. Good Luck

Where is this available? What is the name?

Tractor Supply had a 50# trace mineral block for $5 and another 40# block that appears to have more diverse mineral content for $9.

BTW, I did a quick search over in the TrailCam forum and found a good discussion about this topic if anyone else is interested. Verdict seems to be some deer/areas like one and some the other...Ford vs. Chevy.

I hunt in middle TN and west TN (properties about 90 miles apart).

I can pour a bag of trace mineral out beside a trophy rock on both properties. In middle TN, they wear the TR out and rarely touch the trace mineral. It's the opposite in west TN.

I do not know why, but that's how it is.

I too have conducted field trials. They will hit the TR 9 out of 10 times, even when the compressed blocks have same mineral mix

That's been my experience as well.

The difference is the trace mineral blocks and loose contain man made minerals . Thr Trophyrock is all natural and the animals just know the difference. I know you think I'm pulling your leg but the taste tells all. Wet your finger run it across the coop block and then taste it , do the same with the TR.Coop tastes bitter TR doesn't . The animals are attracted by the taste and smell . They will come to any salt source. Itmakes sense that if they prefer one over the other that one is going to put mote trace minerals into their system. Salt is necessary in their diet, as well as yours, TR is giving them over 60 trace minerals along with the salt.
More like VW and Cadillac !

I've used TR, deer caine, and regular salt blocks on my property and TR seems to be their favorite. Deer caine comes in second.

rem270, what are you expecting when you say its " been working " for you for several years ? I'm not being cute just wondering what you are putting it out for ? pictures ? attractant ? or to help the animals ?
