I slipped out to the woods on Thursday because of a light work load. I was trying a new spot that I hadn't hunted this year. As I was walking in, I found fresh scrapes and rubs everywhere in the area. However, I sat there for about an hour and a half in 15 mph winds with no action. At around 4:15 a 4 pointer pushed a doe about 40 yards directly behind where I was facing. So, I stood up and turned around just in case something else came through. I faced that way for about 10 minutes, and nothing came so I turned back around and sat down. Right when I got situated again, I heard this buck star easing his way down the same path. I made a little racket getting turned back around for the shot, but I think the wind helped muffle the noise. He stopped, but he never looked in my direction so I found a window about 10 feet in front of him where I had a clean shot. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally started forward again and I dropped him right in his tracks at 40 yards. Sorry, but this is the only picture I got of him because of the long haul and I had to get him out quickly. We left this morning to go out of town at 4 so I had to get it to a friend for processing late last night. Probably won't gross over 140 because of his short tine length, but definitely a unique rack. Also, this buck had some strange characteristics. It had a big head and neck, but pretty small body, it probably dressed about 150-160 lbs. Also, it's testicles looked very small and it had nipples. And one last thing, both back legs looked like they had been injured at some point with big knobs around the knees. Any thoughts on this?
