For the past couple years I've committed to a mobile hang and hunt Lone Wolf and sticks set up for when I hunt public land or I want to try a new spot on my lease. I've gotten pretty good with it to the point I sold my Summit Viper last year. Well I realized I had let go a good tool in the arsenal so I bought another Viper with the footrest last night.

I'm hunting in this thing right now and I can't believe I sold my old one. Good gosh almighty this thing is comfortable. I am a firm believer in the right circumstances there isn't a better stand. I can control how high I want to go and it's a better platform for shooting a rifle/muzzleloader than a hang on IMO.

It's definitely convenient to have a big ole Millennium and a set of sticks set up to sneak in on a morning hunt but I might sacrifice some of that convenience for a very comfortable hunting experience.

Looking back I was hauling in and out my Lone Wolf when literally there were trees perfect for my climber all around me lol. I was hunting 16 ft with my LW when I could have been 25 feet in a tree 5 yards away lol.

Don't get me wrong my mobile stand and sticks has a place, especially hunting new property or an area that doesn't have many straight trees.

My climbers were never good for gun hunting because they had no rail. I prefer it that way for bow hunting.

That is an advantage of hang ons is the ability to shoot sitting down with a bow which l like although I've killed numerous deer from my Summit Viper by simply standing up to shoot.

I had an open shot Summit Sentry SD which was good but I eventually sold it.

I've got a lone wolf with sticks and a summit viper. If I know there's a tree I can get my viper in I'm taking it. If I'm going in to a new area I'm taking my lone wolf. Both serve me well.

I bought that viper from you UT Grad and if you remember I had just bought one a few weeks before. I have that one put up for my son. They are great stands! My uncle told for me for years to get one and how comfortable they are. I am a believer now that I finally got a viper last year. The viper is the most comfortable stand I have ever been in!

Honesty that's my biggest hold up on getting a mobile hang on. I like to have the option of an all day sit and be comfortable. I also like the option of getting in very early and grabbing a nap before shooting light. It's hard to get that comfortable in my hang on (which is set up as a permanent stand)

I like hang-ons on gnarly trees with low branches or multi-trunk trees. For big woods where trees are tall & straight with no branches, it's tough to beat a Summit climber. My only complaint is that I always get sleepy in them!

Yes I remember! Enjoy that thing. I got a new one just like that one.

Only climbing stand I'll have and I have three of them . Bought one for $75 well stole that one , it had peices stung out all over the storage unit but all of it was there and after gathering it up the price is as $75 obo but I didn't haggle :D . Like those Vipers .

I love my Summit. I put a set of USGI Alice straps on it and it works great. First year for a climber for me. Took a little practice to get good with it (and quiet) but it's great. Almost too comfortable for an all day sit. haha

I use the viper when at all possible. If no trees I ordered a novix and steps. My next tool is I want a saddle. Just don't know how comfortable they are.
I know saddles are very popular and I can see their merits, I've just not had a burning desire to try one. I sold a LW to a guy on here that is a lineman for a living. He said he hangs in saddles all day for work and he had no desire to hang in a saddle on his day off lol

Been watching/reading/studying saddles since the end of last deer season. I was gonna jump in head first and order a setup but was hoping to meet up with some folks and hopefully try out different equipment. There are several on the market now which just makes it more difficult for me!! lol
The more I read and research I am getting mixed reviews....started out the best thing since sliced bread, more comfortable than any climber, ladder stand etc etc. Now I am starting to see a lot of complaints about hip pinch, complaining they can't sit more than 3-4 hours without feet/legs starting to hurt, folks falling, climbing sticks kicking out on them and getting gorged or sliced open from catching their sticks on the way down....the list goes on and on!!
Priced a Latitude Method with starter kit (linesman, tehter, etc) $489.....then you gotta buy your sticks or whatever climbing method!!

Me personally, I am dang close to just buying another Summit Viper and calling it good!! Wished I'd never sold the one I had. lol

I used a summit goliath sd for 4 or 5 years and loved it and still do. About 3 years ago I got a treewalker treestand it's a climber and a chill pad for it and it has become the most comfortable stand I've hunted out of and chose it over the summit. The summit has become my backup stand when I need it in a pinch. The treewalker has a longer platform and is as wide as the goliath but is also 3lbs lighter about the same weight as the vipers are. They stopped making them last year but if you can get your hands on one you'll love it.

Couldn't agree more! I have sat in my Viper every bow hunt for the past three years. I start thinking about changing things up every time I see a guy with a really light, compact stand on his back but I just can't do it - I feel too comfortable and secure 20' up with the Viper.

Good luck hope you get a good one. Hey I still like my Lone Wolf and I will be carrying it with me on some hunts this year.

It is the best climber I have ever used and great for long all day sits, very comfortable. Quick to put on the tree, fairly quiet as long as the rubber material stays in place. Not too heavy to carry in and out too.
