Not much N120 left, so I'm thinking of making the switch to Reloader 7 today or tomorrow in preparation for Ohio next week.

Anybody have firsthand experience with the Barnes Original 300g? I'd like to be able to shoot out to 325 yards or so. I'm not a glutton for recoil, but will tolerate if necessary.

Personally i would not get the BO. Its a very tough bullet. Great if you just want 2 holes and minimal expansion once the fps drops. I would look as the 300gr Accumax from Pittman. Its about twice the price but also has a better BC. Jacket is thinner too. The only draw back (for some) is its a .452 instead of a .458. Another good bullet is the ASG 310gr. It is a .458 but it also has a fairly thick jacket like a Parker Match Hunter.

Pittmann Accumax http://www.pittmanbullets.com/accumax-4 ... hard-core/

Both bullets look pretty similar

You will need a fairly stout load of Re7 if you want to break 2300fps. Roughly 65-67gr will get you in that ballpark. H4198 can get you even more speed but its gunna be rough on the shoulder. You would also need a loading jag that fits such as the SpinJag for Parker Match Hunters.

Thanks GMB54!

I'm happy with the BO in the 2300 range. I've killed deer out to 320 yards with it and it's performed well at a variety of distances. I'll gonna stick with it at least until this box of 50 is gone.

My barrel is a little loose and doesn't tolerate .452 bullets well. It'll shoot the lights out with them, but I've had several very inconvenient misfires from shifting. The 310ASG sounds interesting. If I remember right Luke actually makes them himself?

I have 4198 sitting in the closet. I like the speeds but for some reason N120 was at least in the ballpark with much less recoil. 67g of 4198 was rough on my shoulder on the bench, but I didn't notice it hunting. But maybe I'm a sissy.

N120 is available now.. check out Andy S. thread below. I cant remember where he bought it. The 310 APB would been a much flatter shooting alternative at 300yds due to a much better bc....If anything like the MH's they are devastating on deer.

N120 is my personal favorite if roughly 2300fps is enough. Powder Valley has it occasionally and so do a couple other places like Grafs.

No, i think Rocky Mountain Bullet makes the 310ASG bullet for him. Its the same company that makes the MH for Parker. 7mmFreak on Dougs makes/sells his own bullets called Bombs. Those are also worth looking into. The MH is a very good bullet but its really tough. Its a better choice if you are shooting much faster than 2300fps. The jacket is as thick as a BO iirc but its made from guilding metal. The BO jacket is pure copper and softer than a MH's copper alloy jacket.

I use 63 gr of reloder 7 with a Hornady .458 FTX with very good results, both accurate and show great expansion on deer. They're also not as expensive
