Looking into buying the 10 for my crestliner vt17 bass boat. Its 5inches shy of being 18ft, and was just wondering if the HDS 10 is to big for my boat? I will mount it to the right of the dash right beside the gunnel. Also wondering if the ram mount would keep up to the beating of the waves?

A Ram mount will hold up and they are good mounts. The preferred method would be to mount it in your console but that is not always possible. If you mount it close to the gunnel, make sure you are careful when docking or tying up to a dock. The Lowrance HDS10 is a large unit and it may stick out past the gunnel creating the potential for it to impact with the dock. Not always the case but just be aware it could happen and keep a close watch on the unit when docking. My unit is mounted on a Ram mount and next do my console in the area I would refer to as the top of the gunnel and I love it there because I can position it any way I need to. The Ram mount will allow you to remove the unit from your boat very easily when you are not using it. In my opinion, you will like the unit and the Ram mount.

And... The ram mounts are good mounts. I have a HDS 10 size mount on the back and it holds my Humminbird in place pretty well. I had it slip one time but I was in rough water at about 50 MPH. I tightened it up more and it didn't move.
