Long Ridge Hunting Lease

Try to find out how many people Gary will have this year. There is a lot of land and there are good deer and turkey poplulations, but you will have to work for them. I hope they have the road hunters under control, and the main road gets lots of ATV/UTV traffic, especially at night on weekends

@Steyrhunter hit it square on the head. I was on there for a few years probably 8-10 years ago. The main road through there is a county road so no-go on putting a gate up to stop the traffic. Road hunters were something bad out there cause it's a big place and secluded so they can and do get away with it. I'll tell you that at night on the weekends especially when it gets warmer outside that there's CRAZY amount of traffic road riding/spotlighting and they don't care about gates at that point when they're a 12 pack of bud heavy in. On more than one occasion I had came down the dirt/gravel road to see a car in flames. Mostly stolen or insurance job but there was a car that was burning/smoldering one night when heading to camp that the next day had a body in the trunk. Plenty of land to hunt but just know going in that you'll have to deal with road hunters and weekend trash.

It is on Smith Mtn. North side of 111. Smith Mtn road comes up from the valley onto the front side of the mtn. I was on the first year of that lease and it was the Wild Wild West. Too many stories to tell. I hope that it is at least somewhat better than it was then.

Oh if it's on smith lol you can forget it. Wouldn't waste my time with it.

I don't even know where Smith Mtn is or if Smith Mtn is what I call "Cagle". If you head up 111 go through Dunlap Valley and up the other side at the very top is an old gas station that has a Dollar General across 111 from it. Turn down that side road next to the gas station and head out that area. Gary Tallent lives or used to live about half mile down the road from me and after a quick google search of Long Ridge Hunt club it still shows his address down the road from me.

That's what I was thinking. Out on macarver rd or whatever it is on the right side of hwy right? Must be another entrance point because now that I think about it you can ride on smith all the way out to the top of cagle mountain.

You are on the right spot with McCarver Loop. It is a long road that will run thru the lease and then off the mtn into Old Union Rd. There used to be a gate, but I am sure there is a hwy around it if it is still there....

I was on it years ago. Many road hunters and riders, people would not pin their location and when you get to a spot, someone was already sitting there. Left one day and saw 2 cars coming toward me. Got closer, back car was pushing front car that had 4 rims, no tires or windshields and a inbred looking guy steering it. Lots of drinking and atv socializing going on on the weekends. Didn't like to leave my car even locked while hunting there. Only stayed 1 year.

Lol that was @rem270 and some of his kin folks trying to hunt these East Tennessee legendary mountain bucks

I've worked in that area. Some truly "rough" people in that neighborhood! One of the few places I wouldn't work without a sidearm.

MUP would be the clean cut, upstanding individual in some of that crowd. I also, only stayed 1 year. Crying shame it is that way, but there are many that have been on that lease for years and love it......

Hmmm lol how many acres? I might just change my mind and give it a look. It's only 10 minutes from me. 🤣 I can deal with the inbred crackheads out here lol.
