In case anyone is interested, and buys as many lithium AAs as I do, you can get 100 Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAs from Amazon for $1.92 a battery (better price than last year, when I pain $2.12/battery), and if you're a Prime member, the price drops to $1.85/battery.

Takes 140 lithium AAs and 36 SD cards to run my cameras for the season, but at least I'm not paying for cell plans!
I have mixed in some wifi cams near stands and roads. I can stop on my way home and download ohotos and bever get out of ny truck or risk scaring deer by walking to me cam. They arent for every spot but work good in certain places as a supplement
 
I oay 22 cents each for alkaline in bulk. I know lithium last longer but do they fast 7 times longer?
YES! Regular alkaline wouldn't last two weeks in my cameras taking black-flash videos at night. But lithium easily last 6 months.

I wouldn't mind trying some of the Wifi cams. It's a great idea. But how fast is the data transfer rate?

Its not terrible. I put them on trail xrossing not food source so i try to keep photo counts manageable. I can download a hundred or so photos in 5 or so minutes and check them as they download.


Its great for placement near stands during season as you can connect and review as you hunt.

They are on orine day sale now for 47 dollars i think
 
I set my Moultrie Edge to upload every 3 hours during the main time of the year. So once I get the stills I can have it download the videos, or stills, at the next check-in 3 hours later. They are usually uploaded within a couple of minutes.
 
I got some energize max alkalines at wlmart the other day. Marked as 8.99 and rang up as 4$ for an 8 pack.

Will be interesting to see how they last. Feels like when I first got these LM2 spypoint cams the batteries were lasting about a month (cell cam).

But in colder months they last only 2-3 weeks.

I figure if I can get a month out of batteries over a corn pile thats doing pretty ok.

They do. But the biggest issue with the alkalines is if you let them die they can corrode and ruin your camera.

This is why I try to put lithium in almost every battery device now….especially things that I don't use regularly each month.

The extra cost saves me money on replacing anything destroyed by leaking batteries!
 
I got them at $1.53 on Prime day from Amazon. Got 48 - wish I got more, but we have a ton reading 1.6-1.7 so I think I'm good. Will re-assess come october
 
I quit buying them. I now use the feeder sized 12 v batteries in a Walmart plastic ammo can with a $20 solar panel to charge them. Cheaper in the long run and always keeps the battery at 100%, even at high volume feeders. I never change batteries now.
That's what I do to. I also use a motorcycle battery. They last a long time.

I may have to look at the long-term costs of that. I have a lot of cameras and move them frequently (moving batteries and solar panels would be a chore), but economically, it may be the way to go in the long run.
thats a fantastic point BSK (and you have many, Ijust learned about the military crest from you in another thread). if you have to move cams often, solar panels are a pain, the 12 v batteries are not bad but still somewhat of a pain to move too and therefore lith AA would be best. i have 3 cams now with permanent spots and there fore 12v batts for those locations! best thing i have done.

I'm at 18 cameras and climbing, and probably 12 get moved on a weekly basis from now until the end of the year.

I put the battery in the cheap ammo can and mounted the solar panel right to the top of the can. I sit the can at the base of the tree and mount the camera as normal. Then when I need to move camera locations, I just carry the can by the handle. I run 35/40 cameras (granted only half are cellular) on public and private but it hasn't been an issue for me.
