Ok I normally wear rubber boots but been wanting a 7" or 8" LIGHTWEIGHT waterproof boot to use some for turkey and archery season. Non insulated of corse. I want to empathize lightweight as possible

Was looking at Irish setter vaprteck ones and redhead RCT goretex ones. Both have super mixed reviews though. Seems danner doesn't make the jackel anymore and doesn't seem to be a lot of other options out there for super light ones in that height.

Anyone have some real time experience with these or other suggestions?

Re: Lightweight boot suggestions

A buddy of mine has the Irish setter rpm rubber boots but they are closer to 17" but they were extremely light for rubber boots

Yeah I have some Irish setter rutmaster rubbers now and they are great. Just want a pair of shorter light boots to mix in on hot days where deep creeks or tall wet grass isn't a huge issue

Re: Lightweight boot suggestions

I was looking into the Irish Setter Vaportrek 8" very light boot, however there have been reviews the sole is too soft and wear quickly. Im also in the same boat as you REN. if I could find a boot with the specs of the Vaportrek with a better review id be trying them out.

Re: Lightweight boot suggestions

Cabelas has a few options for lightweight ones but I have a hard time buying a shoe sight unseen.

Chippewa Apache is a great leather boot. I wear them in the steel toe version everyday

I wear Danner Steadfast for that very purpose

At 3.5lbs a pair they are not the lightest out there but may look into those

Re: Lightweight boot suggestions

Don't get Vaprtrek. They don't hold up good

Re: Lightweight boot suggestions

It sounds like you won't get a good durable boot that is also very lightweight. I'll be wearing my Redwing leather work boots this spring as I did during the past deer season. Never had an issue with the weight, they aren't heavy. They keep water out and are real tough. Tread has shown to hold up very well so far. I also wear them to work so they have seen some wear in the past few months.

that's a deal. I've had them 2 turkey seasons and 2 deer seasons and they are holding up. I put mink oil on the leather twice a year. They are comfortable and light to me though I guess there are lighter boots out there.

Personal experience?
Yes... tread wears out fast and the synthetic mesh part started to tear up. And they never were really waterproof to begin with.

Re: Lightweight boot suggestions

I think i may try the Danner Steadfast. for $69 its worth my hope they fit and work out I guess. they are 3.25lbs not 3.5 so they are not much heavier then the others out there. was looking for some under 3lbs but seems that is hard to find these days and them being worth the money.

or these as well. Will have to try and decide i guess. These are 1 lb lighter which is a lot really. they also have a lifetime warranty from Cabelas which makes them intriguing

I thought it was a brilliant idea for early bow season down south. Chiggers and fire ants convinced me to only try it one time. :D

Re: Lightweight boot suggestions

I have been backpacking in a Solomon X Ultra Mid 2 GTX and really like them. They are waterproof and tough, super light too. Not 7", but give them a look. I will probably hunt in mine this year when I don't want to wear mucks.

Exactly what I read in reviews, I need something as light as them though
