Got in an argument with a guy about what license is needed if you bow only hunt all year .

I could not find the previous threads and I know it's been posted multiple times here . If you are bow hunting during gun season , is it correct you only have to have an archery License ? Couldn't find it in the guide either way . The way I understood it , you only had to have an archery license but if you wanted to shoot does you still had to purchase the type 094 .

The guy I talked to said he got a ticket a few years ago because he was hunting with a muzzleloader during gun season with a muzzleloader only license . He said you have to have the license for the season you are hunting .

Now I'm doubting myself , although I always get a sportsmans license so it doesn't really matter , I would like to know .

I was of the understanding that the seasons are Archery, ML/Archery, and Gun/ML/Archery. So as long as you only hunt with a bow, the Archery tag is correct for all, and you could shoot does during Archery and ML/Archery.

Now you got me wondering too.

From page 8 of the hunting guide
"Hunting and Fishing Combination (Type 001)
Minimum license required to fi sh and/or hunt small game
$28.00
Supplemental Licenses (Types 005, 009, 010, 011 or 015) are required and must be purchased, in
addition to the Type 001 license, in order to hunt deer, elk, bear, turkey and waterfowl. The type of
hunting equipment to be used determines which supplemental license is necessary.
Waterfowl (Type 005) $31.00
Annual Big Game Gun (Type 009) $28.00
Annual Big Game Archery (Type 010) $28.00
Annual Big Game Muzzleloader (Type 011) $28.00
Resident Elk License (Type 015) $28.00
This license is required after successfully being drawn for the annual elk quota hunt. Annual Sportsman
and Lifetime License holders are exempt from having to purchase the Elk License

Negative. License type required follows weapon used while afield so long as the appropriate deer hunting season is open for hunting.

From page 25 in the hunting guide
Archery equipment is legal during muzzleloader and gun seasons. Muzzleloading equipment is legal during gun season.

I would read this that as long as you have the supplemental license for the device you carry and that season is open you are good to go. The ticket for the muzzleloader in gun season with a muzzleloader license sounds like BS to me. I hunted with a muzzleloader last year all through gun season.

You are correct. To use archery equipment all year for big game requires the base Type 001 hunt/fish combo license and the Type 010 supplemental Big Game Archery License. You are correct in the need for the Type 94 permit to participate in any Special Season Antlerless hunts.
