I've got leftover clover, radishes and brassicas in the freezer to store them for next year. Problem is 50lb bags of wheat, oats and rye are a little big for the freezer. I've also read that grain seeds don't keep as well as small seeds. Am I better off spreading the grain seed and hoping for rain and at least a little germination or would it better to store it in the garage until next year at this point?

So the refrigerator is better than the freezer for the small seeds?

The 50lb bags of wheat, rye and oats won't be going in either. Way too big. I guess I will just leave them in the garage and see if they'll last a year.

ive kept small bags of seed in the freezer, not really air tight either and they did fine. it may affect germination some especially if there is still moisture in the seed.(it will freeze and damage the inside of the seed).

if you have big bags you can store them in the garage but you best be watching for meals bugs. they will turn some nice grain into flour by spring. i always mix up some malethion and spray a bit inside of the bags and seal them shut to keep the meal bugs at bay. malethion is what they use in grain silos to store grain.
