Did anyone have any success in the muzzleloader quota hunt at Laurel Hill this weekend? I would love to see some pictures of some good bucks that are being taken or maybe some live game cam photos. Although, be sure to leave the biggest bucks for me to shoot in a few weeks. Haha. I am heading up there for two hunts I have been drawn for in November, both rifle hunts. I haven't been up there this year to do any scouting, but am curious if the rut has kicked in down in that part of the woods. Also wondering what crops they have put in for the food plots. Has anything changed since last year's hunts? Any new clearings, food plots, etc? Any pointers for where to set up or where the deer are moving at the moment would be greatly appreciated. I am really looking forward to getting up there this year.

Out of 3 of us this past weekend there we saw a total of 3 deer from the stand. We hunted Friday evening, all day saturday and sunday morning. The whole place is a giant Acorn pile this year.

Heeter, you're right about the acorns, they were falling like hailstones.
My son saw a little 4-pt and a coyote. I saw an owl. Man was it cold Friday night!

Hunted Friday an Saturday saw a bunch of does, no bucks. Their was only 3 deer killed all weekend. I know of two of them an they was nothing special, they was 2 year old 9 points that wasn't even 15" wide, only reason they got shot was because of the 5 on one side rule.

We came out for lunch Saturday and stopped by Joe's market or something like that and there was a Juvi there that had killed a buck on one the farms close to there and it was huge. If I had to guess it would be around 145inch 8 point. It was the biggest 8 I have seen personally. We saw two 6 points one was piebald and a doe from stand.

Was there a big turnout of hunters? There are usually 500 hunters drawn for these hunts. Hoping the bucks are moving hard on the does when I head up there for the rifle hunt in a couple weeks. I haven't been up there to scout this year, but I have a few spots picked out that seemed to work in my favor last year. Seems like there wasn't many deer killed there this past weekend which is good news for me. Haha. I wonder if anyone has had any luck bow hunting out there. Also, I had no idea there were piebald deer running in those woods. I have never seen one in my life. That's a pretty rare, recessive gene. That 6 pointer you saw might be a shooter next year or the year after. Thanks for the info guys.

Yeah that piebald will be legal next year. He will be a dandy one day. And for my post above I meant to put 155 inch not 145.

Haven't heard much. I will probably be there all weekend but I don't have any other land to hunt except public land, so I kind of look forward to when I get drawn for quota hunts. Depends on what your local areas are like and how much effort you are willing to put into killing a buck. The restrictions are pretty high for Laurel Hill compared to other quota hunts. Have you ever been to Laurel Hill before to deer hunt? The terrain is pretty much all hills, a few fields right next to the road here and there, but mostly wooded hills.

I have never deer hunted Laurel Hill but have been there for other stuff. I do know a good deer was killed in Hampshire this morning chasing a doe so hopefully this weekend will be on! I still am on the fence about Laurel Hill, heard only three deer were killed on the first hunt there. Other options would be Yanahli, or maybe Cheatham or Private Land this weekend, private land is a long maybe...

I think it is going to be a good weekend to be in the woods regardless of where you hunt. The fact that there were only 3 deer killed on the muzzleloader hunt is a little discouraging, but it was a very early hunt. Hoping the rut is in full swing this weekend and the weather cooperates. I haven't had a chance to hit the woods at all yet this year so I couldn't tell you what's going on with the deer in Laurel Hill or anywhere else in Tennessee to be honest with you. Good luck to all that go to Laurel Hill this weekend. Feel free to post pictures in this thread if you bag a buck. Maybe I will see some of you out there. I will probably be in my own little world focusing on being in the treestand as much as possible, but I always enjoy good conversation with a fellow deer hunter.

I saw a lot of deer. Only one buck, 8 point, rack to small. I did see some of the ones that were killed and they were nice. There was one 10 point 140ish. Saw a couple of nines and a twelve. It was a good time.

I saw a lot of deer. Didn't get to hunt Friday, but put my treestand in the woods on Friday evening and the deer were all around me when I was hanging the stand. Probably saw 10 or 12 deer that evening just that I spooked out by hanging my stand. Went in right before daylight Saturday morning and saw 3 does 10 minutes after I sat down. About an hour later, I saw a 4 pointer. Then, around 9:15 am, I had a real nice 8 pointer come running in, but came in so fast running straight at me that I didn't have time to even get my gun up and on him. He came in right under my treestand, looked straight up at me, and took off running. He stopped about 30 yards out and turned broadside, but his vitals were behind a tree so I didn't take the shot. 5 minutes later, I had two does come up from the opposite direction that the buck came in only for them to look down the ridge and took off running. I look down the ridge where they were looking and here comes a 6 pointer. Too small to shoot, but it was fun watching him chase the does back through the woods after he got on their trail. However, I was sick to my stomach for the rest of the day for not getting a shot at the 8 pointer. Never saw him again. Very active morning overall though. Only saw one doe that evening. Sunday morning was a complete failure as I didn't see anything and got drenched by the storm. The rain let up around 12:30 so I went and scouted out some places I had never hunted before. The deer seemed to be moving all over at midday. Saw a 6 pointer and 2 does while walking around. Set up in a new spot that I knew had potential but didn't see any deer that evening neither. Overall, it was a fun weekend just seeing all the action on Saturday morning, but I went home empty handed. I will be back up there in two weeks for the Thanksgiving weekend rifle hunt. Hopefully I will have better luck then.

Nope sure didn't Ghost, with the change in weather I decided to stay local, hunted Friday and Saturday on Yanahli without any luck but at least I was in the woods so cant complain. Chickened out Sunday with the rain and grilled deer burgers and boiled a deer head for a buddy's European mount. After reading your story though I wished I would have went.

I heard someone from Chattanooga got a 170 class 10 point...I know...I know. Anyway, does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I was told the hunter had one arm amputated.

I saw all of the pictures and scores of the deer killed there this weekend and there was not a 170 class buck killed there this past weekend. There were probably about 20 deer killed there...maybe 22 but nothing even close to a 170 class. Someone stretched the truth a little. The biggest buck was maybe a 130 class if I had to guess but most of them under 120 and some even under 100.
