I can't remember the road, but i camped by the VFW lake and when you leave there and turn left to go into the WMA it will come to a creek and you can turn left and drive parallel to the creek or go across it. If you turn left there was corn fields to the right of the road and a pine thicket to the left. There is some secondary points running down off the ridge that come down to those fields.
I marked them on a map and like an total idiot I passed on going into them because I figured easy access, near a field, hunter magnet. However the hunt was a Thursday-Sunday hunt back then and had I hunted it Thursday, I most likely would have had it to myself. Some dude comes in at 1:30 goes there, sets up shoots a 128 8pt at 2:30.
There is also an old checking station or something if you pass the road that takes you to the VFW lake and keep going straight and there is usually crop fields all around it. People were camping by the old checking station. some yahoo, missed a (judged through glass by the game wardens)150 10 pt at 200 yds. I also had the thanksgiving gun hunt and one of the local hunters who works for hunters specialties shot a big 6 on those fields.
I hunted back by Jacks Branch on the gun hunt and saw tons of does and small bucks. On the ML hunt you can shoot does, so that is option if he is just looking to tag a deer.
