I was hunting with Zach Markus a week or two ago, hoping he could shoot a doe or maybe if we got lucky, double up.

We had to pass on this one... that doe was HUGE but her fawn, not so much. This was October 8.

Now I wonder if she didn't get bred the first round, or maybe she always comes in late?

That's the smallest fawn I've seen during deer season yet

I seen one same size and about the same date. It is on cam regularly

For whatever reason she was bred extremely late. I'm still seeing fawns in my yard that are spotted and it isn't that unusual. Even with different rut dates between here and where you are these does are still bred late. It's always been said a better sex ratio at less than the carrying capacity equates to a more tightly timed rut rather than being strung out over months. Over the past several years and after hammering the does I'm seeing just the opposite and less rutting action to boot.

I had a video of a very small fully spotted fawn 2 yers ago that I took during ml season. It kept walking under my stand bleating, and I was amazed

Best thing about fawns this time of year - pick a spot that offers a good aiming point and see how close you hit, lol

I just couldn't bring myself to shoot one that small.

I was squirrel hunting in early February this year and watched a buck (who had already shed one antler) grunting and chasing a doe.
