Hard to believe deer season is almost over. I'll be in a shooting house looking down a logging road 20 yards wide and 360 yards long, between 2 big blocks of hardwoods at daylight. They love to cross that logging road and you have just a few seconds to get on him and make a decision. You have to sit there with your rifle pointed out the window for the entire hunt. If you don't, you can forget getting a shot. I'll be in that shooting house or another one just like it for the next 4 days. We still have some shooters on camera. I can't wait!

Good luck! Keep us updated on the hunt. How is the weather?

Today was dead. I hunted all day and saw 1 small buck 10 minutes before the end of legal shooting time. Weather wasn't bad. Rained off and on. Found a dozen fresh scrapes on my way in and out. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

?hunt near a thicket? The bucks have been hunted since Oct 1st. Time to pick out of the box places and avoid the heavily pressured stands. Best of luck, and yes, there are still shooters out there!

Just checked a cam near a stand that hasn't been hunted this year. Had a shooter there yesterday morning at 9am. I'm going to be there in the morning.

And that's a wrap. It was a terrible weekend for deer movement. I hunted all day Thursday and saw one small buck at last light. Hunted all day Friday and saw a decent buck at last light. Hunted all day Saturday and never saw a deer. Called it a season and slept in Sunday morning and drove home. I don't know if they were in lock down or what. Our cameras picked up very little day time movement but night wasn't much better. There are scrapes all over the place, many of which had been worked recently. The buck I saw Friday evening was working a scrape. I guess it's officially time to start fishing and getting ready for turkey season.

At least you got out there and gave it your best shot till the end. That's how I have to do it, or else I feel I left something on the table. ;)

Been dead in south MS as well. I did see a 13inside 3.5yo 8 pt sat morn while coyote hunting and listening for turkeys.

But that is the norm for the last 10d of January until 2nd rut starts Feb 5th or so.

But you cant kill them from the couch!
